'I didn't want to face it dead on'
When 17-year-old Kristin Katich was diagnosed with leukemia, her life was put on hold. "I didn't want to face it dead on," the Galena High School junior said. "But hearing what my friends had to say, 'be strong,' I thought why not live your life more to the fullest and live happy."

In December, Galena juniors Amy Erger and Kristen VanCitters began selling T-shirts with their friend's motto "LIVE HAPPY" on the front, and the words "Team Kristin" on the back. They have sold 300 shirts at their high school, raising about $2,000 for Katich's treatment.

"We don't want her to worry about the payment," Erger said. "We want her to get the best treatment she can get."

Katich was diagnosed in December and will continue her treatment for another 18 months. She receives treatment through Children's Hospital & Research Center in Oakland, Calif.

"When your kid gets hit with this, it's really like a big bomb explodes in your house, and your whole world changes," said Katich's mother, Leslie Katich. "(But) when you have a support group like the Ergers, it just makes the whole situation just bearable, and you know you're not alone."

Leslie Katich said it has been hard taking trips to Oakland for treatment, but she is grateful for the help her friends have given her.

"It's just wonderful these kids have taken their time to think of others," Leslie Katich said. "It's very heartwarming. We're very humbled."

Shirt sales have expanded to Pine Middle School, and there are plans to begin selling them at Hunsberger Elementary. Kristin's brothers attend both schools.

"The treatment costs so much, and we really wanted to help them out because she is such a good friend," Erger said.

Kristin Katich said this experience has given her insight on the value of friendship.

"It just lets me know who my real friends are and how much they care," Kristin Katich said.

Hawaii Here I Come (14 Days)

Yeah I am so excited, A vacation!!! I am so excited to do nothing, sit and relax, well as well as a mother of an almost seven month old can relax. I am already planning on what to pack, I have had a 'Hawaii' section in my closet for a couple of weeks now, I just dont want to forget anything. I did ask Jeramy if he wanted to start packing yesterday, he said no. But so I think I might succome to peer pressure aand finally, do I dare say, read Twilight!!! I am thinking I will have down time while Parks is napping, so I could read a book, I am so not a book reader, might I need to try hard, I did watch a segment on the Today show about how America is getting dumber, and they said that people just dont read like they should, um so I raise my hand and say, yes that would be me. So I definately should take every oppurtuinty there is to further educate myself and expand my vocabulary and READ! even if that means reading Twilight.

Happy Valentines Day!!!!!

This is Parks and I this morning.

Happy Valentines to all. So I never realized how much I liked this day. I got all dressed in red today, my red shirt, red shoes even my red accented jeans (love them) it was so fun. Then I Got Parks dressed in his red so great. I took him up to my mom's because I had to work, she was in red, her house was all decorated for the lunch she was having, so pretty in red and pink. Then at work everyone was cheerful and saying "Happy Valentines Day' with such passion and enthusiasism. So I like this day a lot. Now I will just relax with my valentines, Jeramy and Parks, totally perfect!

What is it about kids and boxes?

I just wanted to see if he would like it, and he thought is was GREAT.

Yeah for the High Chair!!!

So we got Parks a high chair a couple of week ago, and I am Loving it. He also loves it he really enjoys being up high and seeing what is going on! He is also getting a hang of the eating thing, he no longer pushes it out of his mouth. And yes he has to be safe and be strapped in!
